Lori Cabot

An it harm none?

If I told you that Lori Cabot, the official Witch of Salem, Massachusetts, was ordered to surrender a .38 caliber to police, you might wonder what it is that I am getting at. Certainly I do not think that Witches and Wiccans should not own hand guns, after all I am A.J. Drew; trouble maker extraudenair (uh, how does one spell that?). I am the man who challenges the idea that the Wiccan rede says I should not cause harm. So why do I bring this up? I do so to illustrate how honest I am with my views and how ridiculous the common perception of the Wiccan Rede is.

According to the Associated press, Lori Cabbot was ordered to surrender a .38 caliber revolver as part of a 12 month restraining order which also prevents her from having contact with her former student Janet Andrews or Andrews’ children. Now if the courts didn’t think Lori Cabbot would cause harm, why would the restraining order be necessary? More importantly, if Lori Cabot was not willing to cause harm, why would she own a .38 revolver? It is not exactly a hunting weapon.

“Andrews’ lawyer, Kelly Landolphi, said Cabot threatened to kill Andrews when Andrews asked her to move. “

Of course Lori Cabots lawyer claims she is the victim in this matter. What lawyer doesn’t. But her other antics do add to the comedy that is Pagan leadership.

“SALEM, Mass. — Police claim Salem’s official witch put a hex on them as the result of a custody dispute.”

http://www.thebostonchannel.com/news/3435992/detail.html

It seems police had a warrant to arrest Lori Cabot’s daughter and return a child involved in a custody dispute. When Cabot didn’t open the door, police opened it themselves.

Lori Cabot – “I said, ‘Look me in the eye. You are cursed.’ I meant it. They were nervous.”

So it looks like the pistol-packing pagan doesn’t much mind causing a little bit of harm, or bad PR for that matter. Who cares what a judge says? We got witchcraft. Look into my eyes. I wonder what would have happened if she had that .38 at the time.

Lori Cabot later explained that she meant the police were cursed by their own actions that Witches believe that everything one does comes back three times. Maybe that 6 shooter of hers had 18 rounds of karma intended for herself?

Frankly, I am yet again embarrassed by the folk who publicly represent the pagan community.

  2. See I think every American should own a gun. Its not the guns that kill people, its Ignorant people who kill people. I had Rifles hand guns, and many other assorted weapons at my disposal for year. I am also qualified to carry a conciled hand gun. I have had more years of training to use the thing, but would I use it? In self defense yes. Second Amendment say I can carry a gun at all times if I would like. I carry one 2 of 7 days in a week.
I agree those who represent the pagan community are not the best sort. And Humans are prone to error. Even one who practices witchcraft.

  3. Yes, but why do they constantly tell us that we should never cause harm when they are clearly willing to do just that? I am not saying there is anything wrong with a willingness to cause harm. I am saying there is something wrong with being hypocritical about it.

Oh wait, maybe the party line sells more books but reality doesn’t bring in the coin.

  5. Sometimes though we don’t like to we half to resort to what the people out side the Craft
understand. Who is to say the Lori would have actually used it. You can tell people anything
even if they know you are a witch. dosen’t mean
they will believe and even if they do they don’t understand that even a witch has to protect thier own.We don’t harm others for the sake of harming they but, we do have to protect our own well being, families, and all who are deserving.

  6. Loveshadow - I agree very much. We do have “to protect our own well being, families, and all who are deserving”. What I do not understand is our leader’s insistance that we cause no harm. Note the period at the end of that sentence. If it were to be the whole of the Wiccan Rede and not some shortened version, well then I might agree because the 8 word version only provides instruction for a situation where no harm is done. It does NOT address what to do in a situation where harm is done. For that, one needs to confir with the heart, our own connection to the divine.

Should I protect that stranger from the man who is beating her? I would say yes, do what ever you feel is both just and within your power to do. However, it seems there are many who choose not to become involved and they claim it is due to thier religious convictions, referencing the Wiccan Rede.

I like the term “limp” to describe these people.

On Shadowhawk’s comment, yep there is another example of how the defenders of Gavin and Yvonne Frost conduct themselves. I missed that one, I think I will leave it where it is however. It demonstrates why it is that I have full moderation turned on in this blog. Too many darn “Frosted Flakes”. Thanks for the term Bubba.

  7. I have to agree the rule ” harm None” should be revered however in this day and age ” magik” is not alwas enough, is it so wrong for lori to have a gun to protect herself and others ” deserving” or not is not up to us it is up to The God and Goddess NOT US. Would you rather someone who don’t give a DAMN about our ” harm none” they don’t give a damn about laws for that matter to kill her or someone eles and Lori not have the means to help? that is what i am worried about that just because she is a witch don’t mean she don’t have the same rights a ” christian” or any other relgion does. I see witch hunts starting again if people would not be so close minded we all would benfit with a more peaceful world
    Truth and reverance,Blessed BE
