Michigan’s Wisdom of Ages to Close tomarrow…

In an election year, people are quick to say that the financial problems of a small business are due to a failing economy. I think something else is at hand when it comes to shops like Wisdom of Ages and other Pagan / Wiccan based stores. I think these shops are hit hardest by not only the Wal-Mart philosophy but the by the booming internet marketplace.
Traditionally, modern pagan religions have been taught face to face, person to person and that is exactly how we shopped. Today, not so much. We point and click, bringing not only the goods that we desire into our homes but our covens and organizations. Instead of meeting with folk of like minds, we huddle in digital forums. Instead of examining hand dipped candles, we look for the best price and then click an image of a candle pored in China where students are machine-gunned for being infected with Western ideas such as Freedom of Religion.
On Saturday, February 23rd, 2008 our community will loose another of its commercial resources. Wisdom of the Ages, located at 201 S. Michigan Ave. in Howell, MI will close its doors at 5:00 PM. I would be there if I could, not for a great deal but to tell Mona Lindsay (the owner) that the service she provided will be missed.
Please, if you are in the Howel, Michigan area on February 23rd, visit the store and show your support. If you can’’ visit, please give this woman your well wishes over the phone.

I’m sorry to see another Pagan shop go out of business, there aren’t enough out there as it is.

My heart is broken for many reasons to see another one of our stores closing it’s doors.
I hope you do not see this as a defeat but an opportunity to expand you light in a bigger forum.
