Cambodian hand made knifes look great!

April 17, 2008 – 12:22 am

So I was just turned onto the type of company I would like to operate. Ok, it is in Cambodia and there prices are incredibly low. I doubt it would be possible to compete against a company like this, but check them out and tell me what you think. They seem to operate a very small shop, maybe family owned and operated. Young folk, presumably apprentices, learning form more senior crafts folk and their product is finding its way into the US Market place a lot.

I wish I could provide links to some of their more interesting products, but he page is all one big flash movie so linking the separate sections is not something I know how to do.

Do you like what you see? The ones I like are listed as:

Vermicellus

Nordic

Twisters - Looks a lot like the tourist blades I (and a million other smiths) do.

  2. That Vermicellus is like no knife I have ever seen.

  3. Umhal - Thanks for following the link and looking at the knives. I do not know why I am so interested in the art form. My main interest is not knives or swords, it is shaping metal. But comming up with a knife or sword adds something to the artwork, functionality. It requires and understanding of the heat treating process (well, if you do it yourself) which is an art in itself.

The Vermicellus design is their own or maybe unique to Cambodia. I havent found it anywhere on the internet. I love it because although it is not the strongest design I have ever seen, probably has issues as the bend points, it is something that probably was not done with stock removal. It looks like it was forged by hand.

Would love to figure out what it was made for, skinning maybe?

  4. Skinning was what I thought as well. That knife looks like it was made for some pretty precise work.

    thanks for the links!
